Rain finally played a factor at French Open on Saturday, halting third-round play and postponing several matches. That means there’s a full slate of French Open 2017 matches on Sunday, with big names like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Garbine Muguruza in action.
Play on Sunday will begin bright and early at 5 a.m. ET with television coverage on the Tennis Channel in the United States. That time comes out to an 11 a.m. start time in Paris. The French Open TV Coverage will run on the Tennis Channel until 12 p.m., at which point NBC will pick up coverage for approximately three hours.
An online stream of the day’s courts and matches will be available via the NBC Sports website and NBC Sports app on smart devices.
Djokovic, the defending champion of Roland Garros and second seed, will take on Albert Ramos-Vinolas on the day. Ramos-Vinolas is the 19th seed. Djokovic has been playing very well after some up-and-down play this year.
French Open 2017 Nadal will take on Roberto Bautista Agut, the No. 17 seed. Nadal is the favorite pick among experts given his strong play on the clay surface and despite injuries in recent years.
Muguruza, the fourth seed and defending champion for the women, will face the 13th-seeded Kristina Mladenovic on Sunday Roland-Garros. The highest-remaining seed on the women’s side, No. 2 Karolina Pliskova, will take on Carina Witthoeft.
American Venus Williams, the 10th seed, will take on No. 30 Timea Bacsinszky.
Men’s eighth seed Kei Nishikori leads Hyeon Chung two sets to one, but the fourth set is 0-3 in his opponent’s favor as they are set to resume on Sunday. No. 15 Gael Monfils and No. 24 Richard Gasquet had their 2017 French Open match postponed as well, though they were still in the first set when it happened.
On the women’s side, there were no in-progress matches when rain stopped play, but there were three that hadn’t started which will take place on Sunday. The Roland Garros 2017 match between Pliskova and Witthoeft is one of those.
